frequently asked questions
What is Woodn?
Woodn is a technical wood.
Woodn is a composite material made of PVC and wood fibre, therefore a member of the family of WPCs (wood-plastic composites).
Thanks to its aesthetic aspects, it can substitute wood in many applications, with better durability and other characteristics that are often very useful. For these reasons, it is defined as “technical wood”.
What advantages does Woodn offer over other WPCs?
Woodn has a smaller percentage of wood fibre exposed than any other traditional WPC (25% instead of 70%).
This is an advantage because:
– Woodn absorbs only 3% of its own weight in water, while traditional WPC can absorb up to 5%;
– Woodn has more homogeneous and UV-resistant colouring, because the pigments bind to the polymeric component and not to the wood fibre.
Woodn’s exclusive formula, thanks to the use of expanding components, enables the modification of the material density according to its intended use. In fact, the specific weight of Woodn varies from 0.8 to 1.1 kg/dm3, while traditional WPC has a specific, non-modifiable weight that varies between 1.2 to 1.3 kg/dm3.
This is an advantage because:
– Woodn weighs less than other outdoor materials;
– Woodn can be lightened a further 30% for indoor uses that require no special mechanical characteristics.
Woodn has full-body grain patterns, thanks to an exclusive production process that restores the natural feel and look of wood, making it possible to carry out surface treatments without modifying the grain or colour. Moreover, the grain is random and not repeatable.
What is the difference between a covered wall and a ventilated wall?
A ventilated wall has a ventilation cavity between the support wall and the siding material. Generally, this air space is created thanks to the substructure, which must therefore be constructed with self-supporting elements.
Structures for ventilated wall often have regulating supports that enable the façade to be aligned perfectly, regardless of the support to which they are fixed (so even if the wall is “crooked”, the façade is in any case “straight”).
The ventilated wall increases the salubrity of the building with obvious advantages:
– protection of the wall structure from atmospheric agents:
– fewer risks of cracking and peeling;
– easy to install and maintain;
– energy savings/insulation with reduced heat loss;
– significant reduction in maintenance intervention costs;
– greater living comfort during both summer and winter months;
Instead, a wall that is only covered may have or not an air space between the support wall and the siding material; in any case, this space is insufficient to guarantee ventilation (movement of air). The structures for the siding do not have regulating supports, and therefore the siding generally follows the wall support.
What is the maximum length of the board?
Boards have a standard length studied to optimize handling of the material in construction sites without damaging it, maintaining the distance between boards for dilation within reasonable values (e.g. if the board measures 2 lm, the dilation is 6 mm; if the board is 4 lm, the dilation is 1.2 cm). Having taken this into consideration, boards up to 4.5 lm may be extruded.
Is Woodn sound-absorbent?
No, but it can be used as an aesthetic covering for sound-absorbent panels (e.g. Modulatus Q9510 with a sound-absorbent panel under it). In any case, Woodn, because it has foaming, also has micro-bubbles in the material that enable it to absorb sound.
Woodn is hollow or, in other words, is not a "solid" material. What are the advantages?
The hollows make the material lighter. Furthermore, it allows continuous aeration, which guarantees the rapid release of heat and humidity due to exposure to the sun.
How should I dispose of Woodn?
Special non-dangerous waste, plastic category.
Does Woodn have the MED certification?
The Ornans product has technical characteristics in conformity with the MED (Marine Equipment Directive) certification. Following the attainment of the ISO 9001 certification, a pre-requisite of the MED certification, a procedure is underway to obtain the latter.
The Ornans product meets the SOLAS 74 Conventions, the IMO and IMO FTP Code part 1 resolutions and circulars included in the Annex A.1/3.18 and the Module B – Annex B procedures of the 96/98/CE Directive and subsequent amendments.
Furthermore, Woodn Industries has has implemented and maintains a quality system that ensures compliance to Type, Certificate CSI MED/0497/340/12, and to the requested requirements for Module E – Annex B procedure of the 96/98/CE Directive amended by the 2011/75/UE Directive.
What guarantee does Woodn offer?
Woodn has a 5-year warranty.
